RISK FACTORS & WHO AT RISK
For oral herpes from HSV-1, everyone is at risk. However, in studies suggest that about 62% is infected to adolescence but by the time people in their age of 60’s it is up to 85% have been infected.
While for genital herpes or HSV-2 all sexually active people are at risk. Having multiple sexual partners will increase the risk. Women would have a greater risk of being infected after sex with an unprotected partner than men. Other factors are people with weakened immune systems, such as people with HIV/AIDS or those who take immunosuppressant drugs to treat an autoimmune disease or because of organ transplant, are at greater risk for severe cases of herpes. |
The Infection from cold sore causes blindness if it spreads to the eye. Herpes is a frequent cause of infectious blindness.
